Issue 14 - 21st Sep
Can you believe we are at the end of term 3? Time has truly flown by and our students have participated in so much from All abilities art, Hockey, Constable care and African drumming incursions, the Westminster Sports Carnival and much more. Term 4 will also be a busy one, with many events and celebrations. I am looking forward to seeing our year 6's on camp and also celebrating with them at thier Graduation Assembly.
The new Primary School Principal Mrs Andrea White and I have been working hard behind the scenes to develop a really exciting vision for the new Westminster campus. During term 4, I will be inviting our community to an afternoon tea where I will be able to share the architects plans for the site. These are going to be exciting times for the whole Westminster Community.
I hope everyone has a great term break!
News from ESC 5
Since last time you saw us, we have learnt so much. At school we can follow our class routines and are becoming more independent. Joshua is unpacking his school bag in the mornings and Idris is beginning his morning learning with no help.
We love to play together and are practicing our sharing and turn-taking skills. We have just begun to take the bikes out onto the school track. This is Jai’s favourite time of the week. Quinn is a superstar at pedaling and is beginning to steer herself.
We have also created our very own wonderful Art pieces. Sam and Ibrahim enjoyed looking at all the Artwork on display. We have some very talented friends.
Sudais and Damal enjoyed the Drumming Incursion, and then made lots of noise together.
We are almost at the Spring holidays. We hope the lovely weather stays with us, so we can have fun with our family and friend’s outdoors.
All Abilities Art
12 of our students have recently finished participating in the ‘All Abilities Art’ Project. We are very thankful to Sarah and Kate from Ability solutions, with funding from Telethon, who ran the program over 2 sessions. They used innovative equipment such as robots, spinning wheels, paint filled balloons and paint pistols to produce some wonderful art work. The students had a lot of fun and all the art work created was displayed in the Westminster Schools Art Exhibition.
Art Exhibit, Multicultural Lunch and African Drumming!
On Tuesday 15th September, the schools came together for a very busy, but fun day. Our mainstream senior school and Education Support Centre senior students celebrated with the very popular multi-cultural lunch. The weather was divine and so was all the delicious food of many and varied different cultures and cuisines. Thank you to all parents who spent time preparing and bringing in their wonderful dishes to share with everyone and it was so nice to see parents stay and enjoy the lunch with their children.
The Art Exhibit also opened for the week showcasing all the fantastic art pieces the students have been working on this term. There was some interactive fun with a dress-up photo booth on the day and the younger students, in particular liked ‘finding where the green sheep was’ at our ESC5 farm display.
The day ended with a marvellous interactive show and workshop by Akwaaba West African Drumming and Dance, where each and every student was sat with a Djembe’ to join in and learn some African beats, songs and dance moves. All students, teachers and parents had the opportunity to come out front and have a go on different drums and dancing. Thanks again to Paul Kofi and his team from Akwaaba, who also have a stall at the Wanneroo Markets if you wanted to pop by and say hello and be welcomed by Paul’s huge, warm smile!
