Our Vision
WE INSPIRE ALL STUDENTS IN A SUPPORTIVE, CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE ENVIRONMENT AND ENCOURAGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUCCESS
Principal's Article

As Term 1 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many highlights we’ve shared as a school community.
Our school swimming program has once again been a huge success! A heartfelt thank you goes out to all staff who supported this program. Without the dedication of those willing to get in the pool alongside our students, we simply could not facilitate such an inclusive and enjoyable experience. A special mention must go to our Deputy Principals, Chris and Kirryn, who not only coordinated the logistics of swimming but also joined the students in the water every day for the full four weeks. Your commitment is greatly appreciated.
This week, we also celebrated Harmony Day with our much-anticipated shared cultural lunch. It was wonderful to see so many families proudly wearing traditional dress and sharing delicious food from their cultures. The atmosphere was warm, joyful, and truly reflective of our diverse community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day so special.
Coming up on Thursday at 2:00pm, we have our PBS whole school celebration – the Easter Egg Hunt! To kick off the event, we will be drawing our bike raffle, with one lucky student winning a brand-new bike. Students have been earning raffle tickets by consistently displaying our school values, and we are so proud of the positive behaviours we’ve seen this term. Families are warmly invited to join us for the raffle and the egg hunt – we’d love to see you there!
Lastly, we say a fond farewell to Andrea White, Principal of Westminster Primary School, who is retiring after eight years of dedicated leadership in our community. We thank Andrea for her contributions to our shared site and wish her all the very best in her next chapter.
Wishing all of our students, staff, and families a safe and joyful holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 28 April for the start of Term 2.
Warm regards,
Carmen Lopez

Djeran Season
AUTUMN SEASON
SEASON OF ADULTHOOD
APRIL & MAY
COLOUR - DJERAN
To represent in-land travels
Through the Djeran Season, the initial sign emerges with the arrival of cooler nights, as the weather transitions to a more temperate state. This subtle shift in the atmosphere marks the beginning of Djeran and cool evenings hint at the imminent change in Season.
The morning dew slightly covers the land in a comforting blanket, evoking the knowledge that change is beginning. Djeran is the Season where the land begins the cooling process and brings with it the south-westerly winds.
Noongar people initiate the movement towards the heart of the country during this Season, journeying to the serene waters of lakes and estuaries.
The Kangaroos' fur is transforming into a lush fullness coat, a luxurious gift for the Noongar people, fuelling them with nourishment, sustenance, and offering skins as a source of warmth and comfort. Djeran has always been hailed as the Preparation Season, focusing on readying food, shelter (mia mia), and preparing the journey for the wet Season of Makuru.

News from Koorlangka 4
A warm welcome to our Pre-Primary/Year One class in Koorlangka 4! It has been a joy to watch the students settle in over the term and meet new friends and become familiar with our classroom routines. Our dedicated Education Support staff have been assisting the students every step of the way, ensuring a smooth transition into this exciting new year.
This year, we are continuing to build on the routines and skills from the previous year. The children are already doing an amazing job of unpacking their bags each morning and checking their individual work schedules. This helps them feel independent and confident in their learning journey.
In English, we are focusing on programs like EUFLI Phonics and Talk4Writing, which are helping the students develop strong language skills in a fun and engaging way. This term, we have had a fantastic time retelling The Gingerbread Man through story mapping and hands-on experiences. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to practice their storytelling, creativity, and fine motor skills.
The students have also been fantastic at learning to transition around the school to specialist subjects such as Science, Technology, and Music. They are becoming more confident navigating the school and embracing new learning experiences.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, growing, and developing. As the students continue to build their understanding of new concepts, they are also working on important social skills, such as turn-taking and sharing during cooking experiences as well as in our ILC. It’s been a pleasure to watch them learn these important life skills.
They have recently participated in swimming lessons which has been fantastic as they have all loved being in the water and travelling by bus to get to the pool, learning to wait, listen to instructions and being in a new and exciting environment.
We are all excited for what’s to come in the year ahead and can’t wait to see all the amazing things our students will achieve.
Warm regards,
Christine Bloomfield and the Education Support Staff of Koorlangka 4
