Issue 18 - 30th November
What a busy couple of weeks it has been.
I hope those families who came to the closing ceremony of the Westminster Junior and Primary schools enjoyed the event as much as I did. Our students entertained us with aboriginal music and a performance coupled with historical speeches about the Westminster Schools. After eight years of being the Principal of Westminster Education Support Centre I felt so privileged to not only attend the event but to be a small part of this wonderful community’s history.
Mrs Dunn took our Junior students swimming over the past two weeks. The children have had an excellent time with one or two of them moving up levels. I would like to thank all of the staff and volunteers for their commitment and time to make this happen.
I was fortunate to have been invited to the year 6 camp at Keith Maine, where the students and staff had a ball. This year Miss Shaw obtained her bronze medallion in lifesaving which meant we were able to go to Outback Splash and also use the Swimming Pool at the camp, which was so much fun; especially the water fights! We also had a snoring competition which I came a close runner up in, however Mr Godfrey was the out and out winner. I would like to thank Miss Shaw, Mrs Tilbrook, Mrs LaGalia and Mr Godfrey for volunteering to go on camp, run activities, care for students, sleep over and leave their families for three days.
I would like to congratulate all our book award winners for your outstanding achievements in 2020, the staff are so proud of you all.
School reports are currently being written and this year we will do our best to get them home as soon as possible.
In Week 10 there will be more than the usual end of year disruption as many of the Junior primary classes are relocating to the senior side of the campus. We will do our best to minimise any impact this may have on your child.
2021 Class lists will be made available in week 10 and posted on our Website and Facebook. If you do have any queries, please book an appointment with myself via the office.

The children have been enjoying swimming lessons, we have been very impressed with their behaviour and swimming skills; they should be very proud. Please continue to send in labelled swimming gear.
Term 4 has been an exciting term for ESC 2 with lots of special events and activities happening. These have included outdoor Classroom Day when we had a teddy bear’s picnic eating some yummy cheese tarts we had made. The students also enjoyed some water play and washing our resident model cow! Learning programs in the classroom have involved learning about shape and measurement in maths which the students enjoyed investigating during hands on activities.
Naidoc week was celebrated along with a performance from Yirra Yaakin who are one of Australia’s leading Aboriginal performing arts organisations producing award-winning, world-class theatre. Yirra Yaakin means “Stand Tall” in Noongar language. The students were thoroughly entertained and engaged through the whole performance of Bilya Kaatijin (which means “Fresh Water Knowledge” in Noongar).
We celebrated Book Week with the Junior Primary and Primary schools and joined in the fancy dress parade. We had some wonderful costumes from Paddington Bear and Cat in the Hat to Iron Man and Dora the Explorer.
The governments Sporting Schools grant enabled us to participate in another 4 week bowling program. The students are getting very accurate with the bowling skills and we had quite a few strikes!
The year 1’s and 2’s have had a great time at swimming lessons down at Balga pools. They have improved their skills and grown in confidence over the 2 weeks.
It has been a wonderful year working with these students and wish them all the best as they transition up to the next year level. Have a safe and happy holiday!
